Star Wars and Frozen 2 Announcements at Shareholder Meeting

Disney held a shareholder meeting today, which means some news on upcoming projects.   Firstly, the long-standing rumor of Rian Johnson (Looper, Brick) directing Star Wars Episode VIII has been confirmed.  Does this mean we’ll get to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt in a future Star Wars film?  Remaining within the Star Wars universe, the title of the spin-off film to be directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) and written by Chris Weitz (Cinderella) is Rogue One.  Rogue One was the callsign for Wedge Antilles in the Star Wars films.  Could this movie be a spin-off about him?  Could it center around the stealing of the Death Star plans?  Could it be a quasi- x-wing dogfight type of movie?  Time will tell, but for now we have no details apart from knowing that Felicity Jones (Theory of Everything) has been cast and the release date in December 16, 2016.

Additional Disney new- Parents might want to sit down for this one, Frozen 2 is happening.  It should come as no surprise because the first musical grossed nearly #1.3 billion worldwide (yes, that’s billion with a “B”), but it was never made official until today.  The original directors, Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, will return.  Producer John Lassetter commented, “We enjoyed making FROZEN FEVER so much and being back in that world with those characters. Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck have come up with a great idea for a sequel and you will be hearing a lot more about it and we’re taking you back to Arendelle. We are so excited about that.”  Are you up for another tale with the Frozen characters, or do you think they should have let it go (couldn’t resist).  No release date has been set, but a Frozen short film will play before Cinderella (opening this weekend) so fans will not have to wait long to visit with the characters.  Thanks for reading.
