Another day, another Disney live action adaptation in the works. That statement is not said with a roll of the eyes because Disney does have the most extensive family friendly line-up of animated features under their belt, it is just amusing that they waited this long to begin developing live action versions of their classic stories and now the floodgates are open. We already have re-tellings of Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent (with a sequel in the pipeline) and Cinderella with confirmations of Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, Dumbo, Mulan, Winnie the Pooh, Night on Bald Mountain and Pete’s Dragon in the works. The next title to join the list appears to be a film about Prince Charming.
The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Disney is closing a deal for a feature project centering on Prince Charming. It is not apparent which Prince Charming this film will focus on because the name has been used for the Prince in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella. It would make sense that this movie would be about Snow White’s Prince Charming since that is the only film out of the three that Disney hasn’t remade yet, but most other sites are leaning towards a Cinderella side story. The Guardian is reporting “Prince Charming will not follow the titular character, but rather his brother who has struggled to compete thanks to a lack of charm.”
Matt Fogel (Big Mammas: Like Father, Like Son) wrote the script, while David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman of Mandeville Films/TV as well as Tripp Vinson are set to produce. With Disney’s large slate of live action films in production, it is not known when they plan to release Prince Charming. I will bring you more information as soon as I hear anything.
