Joss Whedon Discusses Why He’s No Longer Involved with Marvel

For a time Joss Whedon was looked at as the godfather of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  Following his writing and directing of The Avengers, he was a creative consultant for all the Phase 2 films (including reports hat he was literally airlifted to London for rewrites while Thor 2 was filming), was a producer for Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and wrote and directed Avengers: Age of Ultron.  Age of Ultron marked the end of his tenure with Marvel and there were numerous rumors online as to the reason behind the breakup including Whedon wanting to pursue smaller passion projects, frustration with Marvel’s interference, burnout from too much work, etc.  Here’s comments from Whedon himself as to why he is no longer working with Marvel, courtesy of Heroic Hollywood. Ryan Coogler Confirmed to Direct Marvel’s Black Panther

According to the February issue of Empire (via Screen Rant), Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station, Creed) has officially signed on to direct Marvel’s Phase 3 film Black Panther.  The character of Black Panther, T’Challa (to be played by Chadwick Boseman), is an integral part of the Marvel Comic Universe and would make him the first black hero to get a stand alone film for Marvel.  Here’s what Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige had to say about the movie.
