The start of Game of Thrones season 6 is right around the corner, returning to HBO on April 24, 2016. Below are variant covers for Entertainment Weekly highlighting the women on Game of Thrones. Check out the six covers below.
The covers represent Sophie Turner’s Sansa Stark, Lena Heady’s Cersei Lannister, Emilia Clarke’s Danerys Targaryen, Maisie Williams’ Arya Stark, , Gwendoline Christie’s Brienne of Tarth, and Natalie Dormer’s Margaery Tyrell. According to HBO programming president Michael Lombardo the women are going to be even greater forces of power in the upcoming season.
“The women are rocking this season — and I’m not just saying that because they’re on your cover. Daenerys always does, but also Brienne, Arya, Sansa, Cersei, Margaery, and other characters too, like Yara (Gemma Whelan). They power this season. It’s organic to the storytelling, yet a radical shift. It’s the women that are the hope that we’re watching as the chess pieces move this season, and it’s very exciting.”
