According to Variety, David Oyelowo (Selma) and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Beyond the Lights) have joined Bad Robot’s God Particle to be directed by Julius Onah. Here’s a description of the film from Coming Soon:
“The plot of God Particle is said to revolve around an American space station that, after an accident with a particle accelerator, suddenly finds that Earth has vanished altogether. Things get stranger when they then they pick up traces of another space station nearby. Some rumors say this may be the next “spiritual successor” to Cloverfield after 10 Cloverfield Lane, but whether it turns out to be called “Cloverfield Particle” or remain an unbranded, unique story is yet to be seen.
In physics, the “God Particle” is a nickname given to the hypothetical Higgs boson, a particle upon which much of our understanding of quantum physics is based. The world’s largest particle accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider, was built in Geneva, Switzerland in an attempt to prove the Higgs boson’s existence.”
It doesn’t make sense to me how this movie taking place in space would have any connection to Cloverfield or 10 Cloverfield Lane. Granted I have not seen 10 Cloverfield Lane so there may very well be discussion in that film about extraterrestrial life being the cause of the monster. Either way, these are two talented performers (Oyelowo in particular receiving tons of acclaim for his work in Selma) so this is a project to keep on your radar.
God Particle is set to arrive in theaters February 24, 2017.
