Not long after all reports were that Colin Firth would not be appearing in the Kingsman sequel in any capacity, this teaser poster is released. While not outright stating that he will be in the sequel, the poster indicates that Firth’s Harry Hart could somehow still be alive. Check out the poster below.
Color me confused. Here’s the report just last month about Firth’s involvement in the sequel.
“Matthew Vaughn is confirmed to direct Kingsman 2, the first sequel he’s ever personally helmed. Taron Egerton (Eddie the Eagle) is returning to his star-making role as Gary ‘Eggsy’ Unwin, who is now fully-trained secret agent. While the first film took place primarily in England, the new one is said to focus more on the USA and the American branch of the title covert Secret Service agency. Colin Firth is not expected to return in either a flashback or as a new character, although the possibility of him playing his own twin brother was bandied about before being abandoned.”
The report indicated that every avenue was explored in finding a way to get the actor (who was the highlight of the movie and who most people would now associate the film franchise with) back for a second go around. The problem is he died. It was not an off-screen death, or a fatal injury that maybe he could’ve actually survived, but he was shot in the head at point blank range. There’s no realistic way that his character could have survived that. Yes, I understand that the first movie wasn’t exactly the most grounded and realistic movie, but just willy nilly bringing people back from the dead is an insult to fans.
All that said, I loved Colin Firth in the first movie and would love for them to find a justifiable way of him returning for The Golden Circle. Halle Berry and Julianne Moore are already confirmed for the sequel, so even without his presence they have a strong cast. What do you think about the possibility of Colin Firth coming back for a Kingsman sequel? Kingsman: The Golden Circle has a release date set for June 16, 2017.
