The Walt Disney Company has provided some updates regarding their theme park improvements including the expansion of Toy Story Land and Star Wars Land, the addition of the Frozen ride, the updates to Soarin’ and Turtle Talk and the Avatar Land addition to Animal Kingdom. Read about each of them (along with some videos) below, courtesy of Coming Soon.
First up is Toy Story Land, coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. In Toy Story Land, you’ll find yourself in Andy’s backyard as a toy-sized guest along with the likes of Woody and Buzz. There are two new themed attractions being developed for Toy Story Land: Slinky Dog Dash, described as “a family coaster attraction where you zip, dodge and dash around many turns and drops that Andy has created to really make Slinky and his coils stretch to his limits”; and the Alien Swirling Saucers, featuring the series’ aliens “flying around in their toy flying saucers and trying to capture your rocket toy vehicle with ‘The Claw.’” You can check out a concept video of the Slinky Dog Dash below.
Moving on to a galaxy far, far away. A new fireworks show titled “Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular” will begin this June at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. You can also check out a new piece of concept art for the forthcoming Star Wars Land below.
This June, the long-awaited update to the fan-favorite attraction Soarin’ will make its debut at Shanghai Disneyland as Soarin’ Over the Horizon on June 16. The next day, guests at Disney California Adventure and Epcot will be able to strap in for Soarin’ Around the World themselves and get a bird’s-eye view of the The Great Wall of China, the Sydney Harbor in Australia, and the Matterhorn in Switzerland.
Speaking of Epcot, the Frozen Ever After attraction is set to open in June which takes guests on a boat tour through the kingdom of Arendelle. The ride sees Queen Elsa embrace her magical powers and create a “Winter in Summer” event for the kingdom. The original voice cast of Frozen returned to record new dialogue and songs penned by composers Bobby and Kristen Anderson-Lopez. After disembarking, guests can top off their Frozen experience by meeting the royal sisters in their new Royal Sommerhus greeting location.
Finally, ahead of Finding Dory‘s debut in theaters on June 17, guests at Epcot will be able to find her themselves along with a few of her new friends Destiny the whale shark, Bailey the beluga whale and Hank the “septopus” (that’s a seven-legged octopus), at the park’s “Turtle Talk With Crush” attraction.
Additionally, Disney provided a peak into the world of Pandora with the video below for their upcoming Avatar World addition to Animal Kingdom.
Designed by Walt Disney Imagineering in partnership with Cameron and his Lightstorm Entertainment, the Pandora: The World of Avatar attraction is said to feature the wonders of Pandora, giving parkgoers the chance to “fly with banshees and explore a rich natural environment with mountains that float and interactive plants that glow at night.”
“I think one of the things that people loved about the movie is that they felt as if they had visited Pandora,” said James Cameron in a video about the attraction released last year. “…now, thanks to Disney’s amazing Imagineers, people are going to truly experience Pandora firsthand. From the details in the plants to the production and design, extraordinary thought and care has gone into this entire world. The teams have really created something special, and it’s not going to be like anything else.”
The World of Avatar expansion marks the largest in Disney’s Animal Kingdom history. Check back for further details on the massive attraction as they become available.
