According to Heroic Hollywood:
“private meeting was held last week between Marvel representatives and independent filmmaker Elizabeth Wood in order to discuss potential directorial duties”
Elizabeth Wood got attention from her directorial debut, White Girl, that received a Grand Jury Prize nomination at the Sundance Film Festival, as well as a seven-figure digital distribution deal with Netflix. Hiring independent filmmakers has been Marvel’s MO as of late with other directors such as Jon Watts, Taika Waititi & Ryan Coogler having experience mainly with smaller scale indie films. I’ll keep you posted as soon as I hear any new information about Captain Marvel. The film is set to arrive in US theaters March 8, 2019.
