Elizabeth Wood a Potential Candidate to Direct Captain Marvel

While next to nothing is known so far about Captain Marvel,  Marvel’s first film with a female lead character, Feige did say about a month ago that we should be hearing about the actress and director within a few months (presumably implying the info would drop at Comic Con).  It was reported earlier that Emily Carmichael had met with Marvel to discuss directing the picture and now there’s another name rumored to be joining the list, Elizabeth Wood.  Continue reading below for more details.

According to Heroic Hollywood:

“private meeting was held last week between Marvel representatives and independent filmmaker Elizabeth Wood in order to discuss potential directorial duties”

Elizabeth Wood got attention from her directorial debut, White Girl, that received a Grand Jury Prize nomination at the Sundance Film Festival, as well as a seven-figure digital distribution deal with Netflix.  Hiring independent filmmakers has been Marvel’s MO as of late with other directors such as Jon Watts, Taika Waititi & Ryan Coogler having experience mainly with smaller scale indie films.  I’ll keep you posted as soon as I hear any new information about Captain Marvel.  The film is set to arrive in US theaters March 8, 2019.
