Deadline is reporting that Noomi Rapace will be reprising her role as Elizabeth Shaw in Alien: Covenant, the sequel to Prometheus. For a while now it was being said that she would not be back for the film and that the events would take place years later so this sudden 180 is interesting. Continue reading for more details.
Here’s the official report from Deadline:
“Sources say Rapace is in Australia and on the set to shoot weeks worth of scenes in Scott’s film, which brings back Fassbender’s robot character and has a cast that includes Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride and Demian Bichir. Info is on lockdown, so we’ll have to wait for the film to be released August 4, 2017, by Fox to see how it all worked out.”
Up until now these are the leaked details about the sequel, courtesy of Coming Soon:
“Set as the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with Prometheus, Alien: Covenant connects directly to Ridley Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. It begins with the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy. There, the crew discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.”
These two sets of information don’t appear to jive. I suppose there could be other possibilities why Shaw could appear in the film given the above description. Perhaps Shaw will appear in flashbacks, or she could be somewhere on the planet and simply not show up in the film until much later, or maybe she abandoned David on the planet before escaping or journeying elsewhere and the crew will catch up to her later one. I’m hoping she’s still alive because she had a Ripley quality about her as a survivor and it would suck if they decided to just kill her off because the first movie flopped and Scott had to change his projected story. Regardless, having more of Rapace in any capacity if a good thing as she’s a very talented actress. I wasn’t crazy about Prometheus, but both her and Fassbender were solid in their roles and left me with some interest to see where they wen with the sequel.
What do you think about Noomi Rapace coming back for Alien: Covenant? What do you think her role will be in the second movie? Alien: Covenant arrives in theaters August 4, 2017.
