According to a report from Coming Soon, Ninjago (a new spinoff from the surprise hit LEGO Movie set to arrive in theaters September 2017) has announced its voice cast. Continue reading below for more details.
Here’s the report from Coming Soon:
Brickset (via SlashFilm) discovered the voice cast for the film at the Licensing Expo and revealed that it includes Jackie Chan as Master Wu, Dave Franco as Lloyd, Michael Peña as Kai, Abbi Jacobson as Nya, Kumail Nanjiani as Jay, Zach Woods as Zane, and Fred Armisen as Cole.
An official description of the film was also revealed, which reads: “Inspired by the wildly popular LEGO line of toys, Ninjago is the story of six young ninja tasked with defending their island home, called Ninjago. By night, they’re gifted warriors, using their skills and awesome fleet of vehicles to fight villains and monsters. By day, they’re ordinary teens struggling against their greatest enemy: high school.”
LEGO Movie managed to shock everyone back in 2014 by taking the popular interlocking bricks that have no connective storyline or mythology and crafting it into a highly entertaining movie. That film’s success has spawned several spinoffs and releated movies including the LEGO Batman Movie and Ninjago that will arrive in theaters next year as well as the LEGO Movie Sequel and Million Brick Race that are due out in 2019. Unlike LEGO Movie, Ninjago has a TV series on the Cartoon Network so there is some backstory to mine for ideas. It will be interesting to see if Ninjago can ride the success of LEGO Movie or if that film will be an outlier due to how unique it was.
