NYCC: Marvel/Netflix Introduces The Defenders

New York Comic Con introduced the team for the Marvel/Netflix event series The Defenders as well as announcing that Sigourney Weaver will be the main villain.

The Netflix and Marvel panel at New York Comic Con had a surprise when it featured the cast for their upcoming mini-series The Defenders on the stage together for the first time.  The Defenders will include Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Danny Rand/Iron Fist (Finn Jones).  The first three characters have been featured in their own Netflix series already, with Iron Fist debuting March 17, 2017.  An additional surprise was when Sigourney Weaver was introduced as the villain of the Defenders series.  Check out additional detail courtesy of Coming Soon as well as the NYCC introduction in the video below.

Of the Sigourney Weaver announcement, Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer and Head of Marvel Television, said: “Marvel is honored to have an actress of her caliber and status join what is already our biggest show ever! She is by definition a class act.”

“Sigourney Weaver, what more is there to say,” added Cindy Holland,Vice President of original content at Netflix. “She’s a formidable actress and we are thrilled to have her join our remarkable cast alongside Charlie, Krysten, Mike and Finn.”

Jon Bernthal, who plays the title role of Frank Castle/The Punisher, also confirmed at the panel that Deborah Ann Woll will be joining him in Marvel’s The Punisher, where she will reprise the role of Karen Page, whom viewers first met in Marvel’s Daredevil.
