Colin Firth (Kingsmen) will be joining the cast of Mary Poppins returns.
According to a report from Variety, Colin Firth is in negotiations play the role of William Weatherall Wilkins, president of Fidelity Fiduciary Bank, in the sequel to the 1964 classic Mary Poppins. He will be joining a cast that already includes Emily Blunt as the titular character Mary Poppins, Lin-Manuel Miranda as street lamplighter named Jack, Ben Whishaw and Emily Mortimer as a grown up Michael and Jane Banks and Meryl Streep as Poppins’ cousin. The movie will take place 25 years after the events in the first film.
Mary Poppins Returns will be directed by Rob Marshall (Into the Woods) from a screenplay by Oscar nominee Davis Magee (Life of Pi) adapted from the works of P.L. Travers. Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman are developing a new score for the film.
