Lucasfilm has announced that Donald Glover (Community) has been cast as a young Lando Calrissian in the untitled Han Solo prequel film.
This December we will be treated to the first standalone Star Wars anthology film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story; meaning the first movie to take place within the Star Wars universe but separate from the numbered Skywalker saga. Another confirmed anthology film will focus on Han Solo prior to Obi Wan and Luke meeting up with him in A New Hope. Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!) will be playing the aforementioned scoundrel in the movie directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (LEGO Movie). Now we have the official casting of another key character, Han’s suave friend Lando who will be played by Glover. Here’s what the directors had to say about the casting courtesy of Coming Soon.
“We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us,” said Lord and Miller. “These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.”
