In an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live Ben Affleck explained his comments about directing the next Batman movie.
Last week I posted comments made by Ben Affleck in an interview with The Guardian during his press tour for Live By Night. He was asked about where The Batman stands (he’s writing, directing and starring in the standalone Batman feature) and his response was “…it’s not a set thing and there’s no script. If it doesn’t come together in a way I think is really great I’m not going to do it.” This comment sent fans online into a frenzy because Affleck’s Batman was looked at as the bight spot of Batman v Superman and his involvement as director of The Batman provided hope that we’ll get a truly great film in the recent rebooted DC cinematic universe.
In an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Affleck was asked about his comments. While showing clear frustration about the situation, his response should put fans at ease.
“I’m gonna direct the next Batman, we’re working on it,”Affleck confirmed. “It’s one of those things that’s really frustrating because with ‘Live By Night’ it took me a year-and-a-half to write it and get it ready and I worked really hard. It’s just no one gave a s**t. No one was like, ‘WHERE’S ‘LIVE BY NIGHT?’ But with Batman I keep getting the, “WHERE’S THE F**KING BATMAN?” I’m like, “Whoa, I’m working! Give me a second!”
Ben, take all the time you need. I want this to be a quality movie more than I want this to be out this very second so if you need time to polish the script so that it meets your high standards (and those high standards are why fanboys are excited about you directing the Batman stand alone movie in the first place) then we can wait.
What are your thoughts on the current state of The Batman? Are you happy that Ben Affleck is taking his time to perfect the script or would you prefer the movie to be out quicker? Share your opinion in the discussion board below. For the reasons stated above there is no release date set as of yet, but I will keep you posted on any new information as it breaks. Here’s a clip of his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel:
