Game of Thrones’ star Peter Dinklage is eyed by Marvel for a “key role” in the upcoming event films Infinity War and its untitled sequel.
According to Variety, Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) is in talks with Marvel to join the ensemble cast of Infinity War and its untitled sequel. Infinity War is set up as the culmination of all the Marvel Cinematic Universe films to date as the heroes face off against their biggest threat yet, Thanos (voiced by Josh Brolin). Reports are that basically every hero thus far introduced in the films (including Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy and new heroes from Phase 3) will be joining forces in this massive event movie. Dinklage is the first new actor/character rumored to be joining the cast, but since Thanos had several allies in his quest to woo Death (in the personification of a woman in the comics, although its possible Cate Blanchett’s Hela could serve the same purpose in the film) and the heroes sought out the assistance of several cosmic characters to battle the Mad Titan, there should be more casting announcements coming soon.
Here’s the report from Variety:
“Sources tell Variety that “Game of Thrones” star Peter Dinklage is in early talks for a key role in Marvel’s “Avengers: Infinity War.” Production on the seventh season of “Game of Thrones” recently wrapped. Since the schedule for the show has moved from a summer shoot to a fall shoot, Dinklage’s schedule allowed him to board the latest “Avengers” pic which is expected to shoot sometime in early summer.
The plan is shoot the next two “Avengers” films (“Infinity War” and a yet untitled sequel) back-to-back. Sources indicate Dinklage is expected to appear in both.
Dinklage’s role is also unknown at this time.”
If Dinklage signs on the dotted line who might he be playing in the two movies? Online speculation has suggested the possibilities of Pip the Troll, The Watcher (Uato), Lord Chaos/Master Order, a surviving Celestial or MODOK (Mental/Mobile/Mechanized Organism Designed Only for Killing). Uato would be fitting but the rights currently belong to Fox. Fox has previously made a deal with Marvel to permit them to use Ego the Living Planet in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in exchange for Negasonic Teenage Warhead in Deadpool, so there is a slim possibility they can make it happen. As outlandish as some heroes/villains who have appeared in movies throughout the years may have been, MODOK would be a hard sell to appear on film (look him up), plus my memory is hazy but I don’t believe he factored into the Infinity War storyline.
If he is cast in Infinity War and beyond (couldn’t help myself), the most likely character he’ll play is Pip. Here’s a description of Pip from Wikipedia:
“Pip was once Prince Gofern of the planet Laxidazia, in the Dolenz System. He was originally an alien of the Laxidazian race who became physically and psychologically mutated into a morally degenerate, stunted, satyr-like form known as a “troll” during a bout of drunkenness brought on by a mutagenic hallucinogenic ale. Like all Laxidazian trolls, After his transformation, his people, also sick of his lewd, lecherous, and hedonistic behavior, strip him of his office and rank. He stows away on a spaceship and continues his life of debauchery. Pip meets Adam Warlock, whose alternate future self the Magus would become the leader of the Church of Truth. Pip teamed up with Warlock to escape and go on adventures. Pip then meets the green-skinned Gamora. Pip meets Thanos, and alongside Warlock, Gamora, and Thanos, he battles the Magus and the Universal Church. Pip revealed how he was transformed into a troll. … Pip explored one of Thanos’ old hideouts and discovered not Adam, but Thanos himself. Thanos destroyed Pip’s mind, but Adam was able to absorb Pip’s soul into the Soul Gem (killing his mindless body, but restoring full mental function to his soul), reuniting him with the spirits of Gamora and eventually Adam Warlock in Soulworld within the Soul Gem.”
