The synopsis has been revealed for the latest PT Anderson / Daniel Day-Lewis collaboration titled Phantom Thread.
Three-time Academy Award winner Daniel Day-Lewis (Lincoln, There Will Be Blood) once again teams up with director Paul Thomas Anderson (The Master, There Will Be Blood) in what is said to be the acclaimed actor’s last film. Now Focus Features and Annapurna Pictures released the title and synopsis for the film, courtesy of Coming Soon:
“Writer/director Anderson will once again explore a distinctive milieu of the 20th century. The new movie is a drama set in the couture world of 1950s London. The story illuminates the life behind the curtain of an uncompromising dressmaker commissioned by royalty and high society.”
Variety broke the news of Day-Lewis’ retirement back in June. While he has “retired” in the past (avoiding Hollywood from 1997-2002 while he was reportedly working as a Cobbler), this time appears more permanent. In a statement from his spokeswoman, Leslee Dart, it was stated:
“Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor. He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years. This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject. ”
Phantom Thread will also star Lesley Manville, Camilla Rutherford and Vicky Krieps. The film is set to arrive in theaters Christmas Day, December 25, 2017.
