Lionsgate to Acquire Starz in Mega Deal

According to a report from Coming Soon, Lionsgate has acquired Starz, an American premium cable and satellite television network that  features mainly theatrically released motion pictures and some first-run original television series.  The deal was for a combination of cash and stocks worth $4.4 billion.  Continue reading below for the full report. Saw 8 in the Works at Lionsgate

Six years ago the seventh and what was assumed to be the last installment in the Saw franchise hit theaters, Saw 3D: The Final Chapter (can you believe it was 6 years ago, it feels like these movies still come out every October).  Well it appears as though that title doesn’t mean anything because Lionsgate has hired screenwriters Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger (Sorority Row, Piranha 3D and Piranha 3DD) to direct an 8th movie called Saw: Legacy. Borderlands Film in Development at Lionsgate

It seems as though video games has become the new go to medium for studios to mine for potential film projects (I just wrote the same thing in an article for the Assassin’s Creed film just yesterday).  Avi Arad and his son Ari Arad in particular are producers on numerous adaptations in various stages of production including Metal Gear Solid, Uncharted and Mass Effect (not to mention the large scale Warcraft and Assassin’s Creed films due out next year).  Add one more video game adaptation to Avi Arad’s slate, as it has just been confirmed that he will be coming on board as a producer for the big screen treatment of Borderlands.
